WE ARE EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS INVESTED IN STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Our team is composed of education professionals who specialize in the MCAT.  We draw on decades of experience across a wide variety of disciplines to create a comprehensive approach to MCAT preparation.  We do not “teach to the test,” we help a student understand the test and how they can optimize their learning and performance as they approach test day.

Owen Farcy, with over 15 years in education and former Director of Pre-Medical Programs at Kaplan Test Prep, is passionate about test prep and medical school admissions

OWEN FARCY

Co-Founder and Principal Consultant

With more than 15 years of experience in education, leadership, and technology, Owen is passionate about helping each learner discover the practices and approaches best suited to their needs.

As the former Director of Pre-Medical Programs for Kaplan Test Prep, Owen is a nationally-recognized expert on test preparation and medical school admissions. A regular speaker at conferences and organizations across the country - including the American Medical Student Association, Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity, and the National Association for Advisors of the Health Professions - he brings an experienced and unique perspective to the global conversations impacting the science of education.

Owen explained concepts to me in simple ways that prep videos could not, and I was able to retain my knowledge much better as a result. He was able to connect ideas logically and worked with my strengths and weaknesses well.

MANDY SIGLIN, PhD

Co-Founder and Principal Consultant

With over 15 years of experience in education, science and program administration, Mandy's mission is to help learners optimize their academic success while maintaining their overall wellbeing.

As former faculty in Thomas Jefferson University’s Postbaccalaurette Program and former Director of the Pre-Health Program at Juniata College, Mandy combines her scientific, teaching, and programmatic background with her training in mindset optimization and meditation to help students optimize their learning experience. Mandy brings a unique perspective to her work with preprofessional students, going beyond just studying for the exam and encouraging students to understand who they are as learners, optimize their focus, and be intentional about their wellbeing. Ultimately, her goal is to provide students tools they will use throughout their academic and professional career.

Mandy effectively identified areas where I could be more efficient in test-taking and provided me with tips to keep myself focused on every passage. She helped me overcome the fear of doing the exam itself.

We aren’t just people who have done well on the MCAT ourselves; we are professional educators who bridge the gap between students and the demands that the system places on them.

    Mandy
We do not have traditional videos/lectures on scientific content.  Students have already received this in undergrad and there are excellent resources they can use to supplement/refresh their knowledge.  We are incredibly interested in the science of learning, mindset and optimization.  We draw on techniques across many disciplines to help students optimize their studying and performance on test day.

When I was a premedical student I found that there was a lot I didn’t know I didn’t know; while I worked hard in classes and succeeded academically, the “hidden curriculum” of being a successful premed was completely lost to me. It was only when I started to see the admissions and application process from the other side that I started to realize how much I didn’t know at the time and wasn’t even aware that I should be asking. Every student comes to this process with a different background and unique experiences that shape their approach, but too few students have the support of true experts that can help them separate fact from fiction and point out what they may be missing.

    Mandy
I have always been passionate about mentoring college-age students through life discernment choices.  I am also a huge fan of learning how science can be used in our day-to-day life. I started this business to continue to help pre-med students along their journey to medical school.  My goal is to introduce students to ways of optimizing their time, learning, mindset and overall well being to help them start regular practices that will enhance their lives while preparing for the MCAT, medical school and their future career.

I help our students remember why they want to be physicians by reminding them of their academic curiosity and the joy they can derive from mastering complex subject matter. By teaching them to decode the MCAT and recognize where their instincts may be misaligned with the exam, they come to realize that the exam isn’t the monster they’ve been led to believe it is but is actually a realistic representation of the skills they want to embody as physicians.

    Mandy
I help students see the MCAT for what it truly is, just another step along the way, not an obstacle in their way.  I do this in a variety of ways, catered to each individual student.  Oftentimes, this can show up as learning to reframe a situation, effectively and intentionally using their time, meditation, learning about how the MCAT is constructed, implementing specific test strategies and learning to think broadly/interconnectedly about the content on the MCAT.

  • Owen
A deeper understanding of and appreciation for the science that drives our bodies, our minds, and the world around us.

    Mandy
Ideally a sense of competence for the next step in their medical journey.  Practically, tools and techniques to use on test day and beyond to manage focus, anxiety, stress and gain clarity.
